Photos: Algae crisis in Lee County in summer 2018
Algae growth along the Caloosahatchee River and adjoining waterways in Lee and Glades counties have been rampant as large-scale water releases continue from Lake Okeechobee. Here's a look at some of the scenes.
Mike and DeAnna Martin live 400 yards from the Caloosahatchee River in North Fort Myers. They say they are being forced indoors by the overwhelming smell and their health is being affected. They tell Fox 4 they moved to SWFL just after Hurricane Irma, at first they enjoyed fishing and boating with children and grandkids, but the algae has now been present for months.
