CAPE CORAL, Fla. - People in parts of Cape Coral becoming concerned as storms dump more rain than the ground could absorb, resulting in flooded roads.

In the darkness of the night, cars sped through the flooded areas, water tunnels surrounding them.

Cones meant to guide drivers through their lanes on Diplomat Parkway near NW 5th Ave tipped over, volunteer Cape Coral police officers coming to set them back up and directing traffic before moving onto the next flooded street.

Fran llewelyn of Cape Coral says, "you live here you're gonna get your car ruined. And now I'm gonna go float home! I've floated home many a times."

Fran says it's a problem she's been dealing with since 2004.

On this dark and busy road, Fran says she wants to see streetlights, and the asphalt raised to stop the flooding.

"I just want to go home safely and I want my family to go home safely and everyone to be safe and this is not safe," she says.

As Fran braves the standing water to get home, Daniel Rakijasic agrees - This isn't out of the ordinary.

"This is normal for a rainy season. During rainy season it gets really bad here," he says.

He would know... This is his daughters bus stop!

"Every time it rains! You can guarantee it"

Meanwhile other neighbors say the flooding has gotten better over the years.

But all neighbors agree - Drivers, go through with caution!
