FORT MYERS, Fla. - State Route 82 is known for its car collisions and fatalities, but an application permit to open up a rock mining operation on that road is setting off alarms.

The proposal would put hundreds of trucks on the road every day.

The property in question is an orange grove called the Old Corkscrew Plantation.

It's a 4,000 acre ranch situated between State Route 82 and Daniels Parkway.

According to the zoning division application, nearly 1,398 two way truck-loads per day would be using State Route 82.

The rezoning application only has until March 23 before it will expire.
