Two detained after reports of shots fired in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Two people have been detained and a weapon has been recovered while police investigate a shots fired call in Fort Myers Wednesday morning.

According to the Fort Myers Police Department, a call came in at 10:41 a.m. reporting gunshots being heard in the 3900 block of Belmont Avenue.  That's a few blocks southeast of the intersection of Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard and Palm Beach Boulevard.

Responding units determined that nobody was struck by gunfire, but officers detained two people.

Nearby James Stephens International Academy was placed on lockdown status as a precaution, but the lockdown has been lifted.

Police say there is no threat to the community, and officers are continuing to investigate this incident.
