LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A 2-vehicle crash Sunday night injured eight people, including several children, and caused road block on Palm Beach Boulevard.

Florida Highway Patrol says it happened shortly before 9pm near the intersection with Hickey Creek Road.

Troopers say a pickup truck was westbound on Palm Beach when they approached stopped traffic.  The driver swerved toward the shoulder, then overcorrected and crossed the median, hitting a tree and continuing into the eastbound lanes.  The truck was then hit by an eastbound van.

The two people in the truck suffered serious injuries and were taken to area hospitals.  They have been identified as 18-year-old Justin Schipansky of Moore Haven, and 17-year-old Yadiel Sonera of Lehigh Acres.

The van had six occupants: three adults and three children, all from Fort Myers.  88-year-old passenger Estelle Walker was critically injured in the crash. Four others suffered serious injuries: 65-year-old driver Donald Johnson, 60-year-old Rebecca Johnson, 9-year-old Jaycee Johnson, and 7-year-old Charlie Johnson.

5-year-old Sophia Johnson received minor injuries.

Charges are still pending further investigation.
