Violence can't rain on Easter parade

Thousands crowded the streets of the Dunbar community Sunday for the 72nd annual Dunbar Easter parade.

"We get together with the family, have a meal or two, sit around and enjoy each other's company," said Terrance Battle, who says he's been to five of these parades.

A staff of 15 helped put it together, many of 38 floats were hand made.

"From when I was a little girl we used to dress up and decorate the wagons, for the little kids, and the kids had their Easter bonnets, and things like that, so we're trying to get back to what we used to have," said Tonya Cola, a parade organizer.

Residents say the parade shows Dunbar is united, and recent acts of violence don't represent what the community is about.

"We have to have more gatherings like this, with like, I don't know if it's a spiritual theme, but something to bring the community together," said Battle.

The parade route started at MLK Boulevard and Ford Street, and ended at Dunbar Park.
