CAPE CORAL, FL- In the aftermath of Saturday's destructive tornado, volunteers were seen sifting through the rubble, working to restore a sense of normalcy Thursday.
For days now, city officials have been clearing out the debris. But today, residents showed up to do their part, whatever they could do to help.
"Its so heartwarming to see hundreds of people come together," said Jill Mullins, one of the organizers of Thursday's clean up.
Numerous sponsors also provided food, clothing and other supplies to be distributed to those in need.
"The easiest thing I could think of on a cold day was bring some hot chicken, rice and chilli,"
said Chad Lewis, an employee at Patinellas Chicken Grill. "I'm not good at cutting down trees but I'm good at making chicken," he added.
As friends, neighbors and strangers, residents of the city and across southwest Florida picked up the pieces Thursday to hopefully bring cleaner streets and clearer views to families as they rebuild from the mess left by Saturday's tornado.
