"We needed change", new Fort Myers Police Chief announced

LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- After an extensive search spanning 6 months, a new Fort Myers Police Chief has been announced. 

Fort Myers City Manager confirmed to FOX 4 that Derrick Diggs - who retired as the Police Chief in Toledo, Ohio in 2014, will be the next Fort Myers Police Chief. 

In a statement to FOX 4, City Manager Saeed Zazemi said "We picked the best candidate, we believe he is going to being the Fort Myers Police Department to the next level". He also stated, "The Police Department needed change and we believe Derrick Diggs will provide the change that is needed". 

Diggs is expected to be introduced on Thursday to city leaders during the city council meeting.
