COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- A fatal accident shut down a major road in Collier County and left a 12-year-old dead Wednesday morning.
It happened in the westbound lanes of Immokalee Road near Northbrooke Drive, according to Florida Highway Patrol. That's just on the east side of Interstate 75.
According to FHP, just before 5 AM, 12-year-old Nicholas Pearo of Naples was standing on the shoulder of Immokalee Road when he darted into the roadway into the path of a westbound dump truck.
Pearo was taken to North Collier Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Charges are pending investigation.
All lanes of Immokalee Road have since reopened.
