Woman accused of kicking dog into water

Posted
BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) - A 60-year-old woman is facing an animal cruelty charge after witnesses say she kicked a tied-up dog into the Intracoastal Waterway near Boca Raton.

Boca Baton police said in a news release that the dog, which was wrapped in wire, was rescued by bystanders Sunday night.

Greg Bunch tells news outlets he was fishing when he saw the dog struggling in the water. Bunch says 60-year-old Eva Lea Klein told him her dog loved to swim, but then walked away. Bunch says the dog was continuing to struggle, at which point bystanders used a boat to rescue Jellybean, a toy Lhasa Apso and Shih Tzu mix.

Police traced Jellybean to Klein through the dog's microchip. Klein tells WPBF-TV (http://bit.ly/1VTC0vE ) she would never want to hurt her son's dog.
