LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Fort Myers woman was found dead Sunday after flames ripped through her apartment.
The fire erupted at the Forestwoods Apartments on Brantley Road in Fort Myers, just before 1 p.m. Sunday.
South Trail Fire officials say the woman was found dead inside her apartment after a neighbor called 911 to report smelling smoke.
Firefighters were able to contain the flames to that one apartment unit.
We're told a dog was rescued and turned over to animal services.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
