Woman shot overnight in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Fort Myers Police responded to the sound of gun shots Monday morning just before 3 a.m.   Officers were flagged down by a person who told them that a vehicle had crashed into a wooded area in the 2700 block of Ford Street in Fort Myers.

Upon arrival police located a female, later identified as Porsha Jones, 24, of Fort Myers, outside her vehicle bleeding from an apparent gunshot wound. Jones was conscious.  Jones was transported by Lee County Emergency Medical Services to Lee Memorial Hospital.  Jones was treated for a non-life-threatening injury.

Detectives worked the scene to include collecting evidence and canvassing the area for witnesses. The preliminary investigation revealed Jones was shot by an unknown person or persons while traveling northbound on Ford Street. The investigation remains on-going at this hour.
