LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Troopers say a wrong way driver in Lehigh Acres caused a crash that killed a teen Thursday evening.

It happened at 6:46pm on Leeland Heights Boulevard near Greenwood Avenue.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a car driven by 60-year-old Jose Castaneda of Lehigh Acres was headed in the wrong direction on Leeland Heights.  One car just managed to swerve to avoid the wrong way driver, with their side mirrors hitting.  The next car was unable to avoid a collision, with their front left sides smashing into each other.

The driver of that car, 19-year-old Maria Fuentes, died at the hospital.

Castaneda was transported to Lehigh Hospital in critical condition.  He has been charged with driving on the wrong side of the roadway.

Troopers say alcohol was not a factor.
