PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Kindergarten classes at Babcock Neighborhood School are helping make sure families at TICE Elementary School get to have a turkey dinner on Thanksgiving.
With help from the Babcock community, school, and local partners, like Blessings in a Backpack, the fundraiser supplied 50 bags of Thanksgiving dinner.
"I think that it was really eye-opening for them to learn that there are people out there that really do struggle with food. When we were talking about Covid and how people had lost their jobs and didn’t have money for Thanksgiving, they really wanted to help them and they were very, very excited to be able to do that," said Carmen Contos, one of Babcock's kindergarten teachers.
Wednesday, kindergarten classes loaded the bags into cars of Florida Gulf Coast University students to drop off at TICE Elementary School.
Administrators say the meals with help feed many of their struggling families in Fort Myers.
TICE is planning to have the Thanksgiving meals ready for parents to pick up on Thursday.
