CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Ready for a meal that supports a local business?
How about one that's healthy for you and the planet?
That's the idea behind SWFLVegan Restaurant week- which kicks off Friday, Feb. 12.
The event was the brainchild of a newly created non-profit called "Lifestyle Solutions Healthy Planet."
The idea is to encourage locals to find their way to local restaurants that serve vegan options.
While more restaurants are offering vegan options these days, organizers say they want to make a special effort to get people to support these local business owners who are looking to rebound during the pandemic.
Six local restaurants are featured for the event, which runs through Feb. 26.:
A kick-off dinner for the event was held at Cafe You on Feb. 11. Among those at the restaurant, Dr. Sal Lacagnina, Chair of "Lifestyle Solutions Health Planet."
Like so many others involved in the effort, "Dr. Sal" - as he's often called - is living the plant-based lifestyle he promotes to his patients at Concierge Lifestyle Medicine.
And it shows.
He looks much younger than his years.
He says slowing aging is about more than eating better; it's about living better.
He recently penned a book about the subject called "How to Grow Up without Getting Old."
