Ann Marie Buerkle, was named Acting Chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on February 9, 2017. Ms. Buerkle has been with CPSC since June 2013 when she was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as a Commissioner for the agency. Prior to joining the CPSC, Ms. Buerkle represented Upstate New York’s 25th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Acting Chairman Buerkle seeks to lead CPSC by bringing the same approach to running the agency that she followed as a Commissioner.

Just ahead of Memorial Day weekend and summer swim season, a new report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) shows some positive news: reports of fatal drownings in swimming pools and spas involving children younger than 5 – the most vulnerable population to fatal drownings – is down nearly 20% since 2010. In children younger than 15, reports of fatal drownings are down 13%.
