National Dog Day (August 26) was created to honor and celebrate dogs everywhere, including those that work selflessly to save lives, keep us safe and offer comfort to those that need it. The day also serves as a reminder to recognize the millions of dogs still in shelters looking for their forever homes.
Timed to National Dog Day, dog trainers Laura London and Nate Schoemer are available to discuss Animal Planet's new series Rescue Dog to Super Dog, where each week shelter dogs get a second chance and a purpose as they begin their training to offer assistance to people with physical and emotional disabilities.
Millions of dogs live in shelters in the U.S. waiting for their forever homes. Tens of millions of people in the U.S. live with physical, psychological or neurological disabilities. In Rescue Dog to Super Dog, Nate and Laura meet a person in need and match them with a shelter dog with the right aptitude and attitude to provide the specific service that person needs -- from opening and closing doors to turning on lights to applying the necessary pressure during panic attacks to assisting with walking. Viewers will witness a meaningful transformation that proves that not only do people rescue dogs, but dogs also rescue people.
