Super Lice 4/25/16

Posted

Super lice are making their way across the country! According to the American Chemical Society, “Scientists report that lice populations in at least 25 states have developed resistance to over-the-counter treatments still widely recommended by doctors and schools.” In fact, super lice from states such as California, Texas, Florida, Maine, New York, New Jersey, New Mexico and Oregon have tested positive for mutations making them resistant to pyrethroids, the active ingredients found in some of the most common over-the-counter treatments. So with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimating “6 million to 12 million infestations” each year in the United States “among children 3 to 11 years of age” and super lice spreading across the country, how can we beat these pesky critters without breaking the bank on professional lice removal?
