The Salvation Army still needs donations in Fort Myers

The Salvation Army in Fort Myers began their Christmas Cheer program Monday and families can register for food and gift assistance for the holidays.

Major Cheryl Gilliam with The Salvation Army said, "Christmas is what we always do. It's a part of our mission."

Gilliam said especially since Hurricane Irma, she expects the need for help to be much larger this year.

After Loudna Joseph registered this morning, she said, "All the help will be really nice. Make Christmas more fun for us."

When you go to register, make sure you bring your photo ID, proof of Lee County residence (utility bill), proof of income and benefits, and if you have children, bring their proof of birth date.

The have three different locations you can register and they have different times as well:

You can register at The Salvation Army- Lehigh Acres Outreach center at 25 Homestead Road North, Suite 42 in Lehigh Acres from October 16th to the 20th and the 23rd to the 27th from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. They accept walkins.

You can register at The Salvation Army at 10291 McGregor Boulevard in Fort Myers on October 16th and October 17th to the 18th from 9 a.m. to noon and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. only on the 16th.

And you can register at The Salvation Army at 2400 Edison Avenue in Fort Myers from October 19th to the 21st from 9 a.m. to noon.

When you register, you can write down an item you need and an item you wish for. The Salvation Army staff will let you know if you're approved the same day.
