Here is your forecast for Monday, July 8th 2024
While we're expecting some relief from the heat across parts of SWFL, that won't be the case everywhere. Collier, Glades and Hendry counties are expecting to hit a "feels like" temperature, or heat index, of at least 105°, triggering a new Heat Advisory that will go into effect at 10am.
Today, ALL of SWFL felt the heat. Punta Gorda hit a heat index of 113°!
FEELIN HOT HOT HOT, even by Southwest Florida standards! Punta Gorda's 96° felt more like 113°, hence the Heat Advisory. But, with a wind shift, *most* areas should stay below Advisory criteria (105°+) tomorrow and the rest of this week. #flwx pic.twitter.com/y5IH8ZQsW2

The good news is that winds will be shifting and off the Gulf of Mexico tomorrow through the rest of this week. This should keep some communities below Heat Advisory criteria, which is a heat index or "feels like" temperature of 105°+.
But, whether your heat index is 100° or 110°, remember to drink plenty of non-sugary fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and out of the sun. Check up on relatives and neighbors.
No person or pets should be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.
Thanks to a Saharan dust plume overhead, rain chances will stay low again tomorrow and Wednesday. The best chance for an afternoon shower tomorrow will be after 3pm, inland, east of I-75. The coast and local beaches will stay dry.
Rain chances stay low at just 20% on Wednesday before returning to the scattered range on Thursday.
Looking ahead to the weekend, our rain chances increase to 60-80% in the afternoon starting Friday and running through Sunday.
