FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Lee County is technically still under a state of emergency. It's been that way since last week when it looked like Hurricane Dorian would have a bigger impact in Southwest Florida.

Commissioners explained at their meeting Tuesday that the county has a 'Level Two' activation in place. That means it's on notice to help the east coast, if needed.

In fact, urban search and rescue crews are on stand-by right now in Palm Beach County.

"We are extremely grateful that a couple years ago when Irma hit us, we got a lot of assistance around the state, and now it's our turn to pay back and hopefully help out those communities impacted by Dorian," said Commissioner Brian Hamman.

The local state of emergency will expire Friday.
