FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — All eyes are on Hurricane Dorian as it barrels toward the U.S. mainland, models predict he will hit as a major storm during the upcoming holiday weekend.

In Fort Myers Beach Wednesday was a game of wait and keep working for local businesses, like the Doghouse on Estero Boulevard, which is co-owned by Jason Unger.

"There's definitely a lot of concern from people on the beach, everyone's asking about it," said Unger.

Dorian's predicted path could have an impact on Southwest Florida, but what kind of impact remains to be seen.

"It can go either way, potentially hitting on the east coast drives a lot of people over here to stay to get away from the storm on their side," said Unger.

Pamela Hull who works next door, at the Silver Sands Resort, says so far they haven't had any cancellations.

Hull believes this is likely due to the fact that most staying there this time of year are from the sunshine state.

"They're pretty aware of what to do and not to do and when to hunker down," said Hull.

The resort is keeping a close eye on the weather reports and is prepared for whatever Dorian throws their way.

"We'll do whatever we need to do to batten down the hatches and prepare for guests if they should be coming from a long distance and can't cancel plans," said Hull.

Dorian is forecast to become a major category 3 hurricane when making landfall somewhere on Florida's east coast overnight Sunday.
