COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- Power crews have had their hands full all across Florida since Hurricane Irma knocked millions of customers offline earlier this month. One crew in particular had to evade snakes and alligators to restore power to some rural Collier County communities.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office has shared video of the mission to help the Copeland and Jerome communities along State Road 29 north of Tamiami Trail.
According to CCSO, eight linemen were transported in airboats from the sheriff's office and the National Park Service to access remote utility poles, where they repaired four towers over six hours, often working 40 feet in the air.
Thankfully the only wildlife they encountered was a harmless garter snake.
The aerial video was shot Thursday by Sgt. Jim Baker.
