Fake post being shared says 900 are stranded in Marco Island

Posted

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- The Marco Island Police Department has a warning for you after getting word of a false Facebook post.

The post claims 900 victims have been found trapped in flooding at St. Marks Episcopal Church, and that they urgently need food, water, and supplies.   But the church is not flooded and there is no emergency situation there.

However, the church is collecting resources for the community and are urging those who can to donate. Call (239) 394-7242 for additional information.

Meanwhile, police are asking you to verify social media posts before sharing it.
