LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Boaters that need drawbridges to open for them need to plan on avoiding some Lee County bridges this weekend.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, starting at 9 AM Saturday, all DOT-operated drawbridges in the county will be locked in the closed position in an effort to avoid slowing evacuation traffic associated with Hurricane Irma.
Motorists will not be negatively affected by this change.
The drawbridges that will be locked down include:
- Alva drawbridge
- Big Carlos Pass drawbridge
- Matlacha drawbridge
The Gasparilla Island (Boca Grande drawbridge) is privately operated and was locked down at 9am Friday.
