SOUTHWEST FLORIDA -- Now that Hurricane Irma has made its way out of Southwest Florida, residents are starting to clean up in an attempt to get things returned to normal. But some students in the area will have to wait a bit before school is back in session.
Collier County Public Schools will reopen for students on Monday, September 25th, but teachers will return on Friday, September 22nd.
Doctor Kamela Patton says to make up for the lost classroom time, some teacher-planning days will be cut and half-days will be extended to full school days.
Lee County Schools and District Offices will be closed until Monday, September 25th.
Many of their schools were still being used as shelters, and many of students' families and school employees need time to make it back to Southwest Florida after evacuating from Hurricane Irma.
Superintendent Adkins says the district will discuss the possibility of implementing make up days for the days missed.
Charlotte County Schools will reopen on Monday, September 18th.
Glades County Schools will reopen on Monday, September 18th.
Hendry County Schools will open Wednesday, September 20th; teachers return the 19th.
DeSoto County Schools will reopen on Monday, September 18th.
FGCU & FSW - Campuses will reopen Monday, September 18th.
Good Shepherd Lutheran School in North Fort Myers is reopening September 18th.
